One of my passions since childhood years was to wander outside of small woodworking shops and look at how delicately the craft of furniture making was performed by the craftsmen. I used to save all of my pocket money to buy saws, hammers, nails and other tools. The childhood years passed and at the age of 24, I returned from London to my birthplace Tehran. I was looking for a job and, my father's successful business in real state did not interest me. Once the opportunity presented itself to me and my friend Serj, a native of France, we built a small woodworking shop in the outer garden of the house where I lived with my family. At the beginning working at this shop was more of a hobby than a business. We would make furniture pieces and give them to our friends and relatives as gifts. Little by little, however, people heard of our products and there was a growing interest in our work. Working at the shop had now become a full time job for us and we dedicated a space besides the shop as a showroom where costumers could browse through our different products. Some time passed, and I remember being very surprised once I realized that my friend and I could no longer finish the making of all the orders we received. So it was time to start adding more people to our work force as the business started growing every year. There came a time when Serj had to move back to France; at the same time Tehran was becoming more and more populated, and new laws were now being put in effect that required our workshop to be moved outside the residential areas of the city. Having established a solid base with our customers and having raised enough funds, I built a well-equipped factory on the out skirts of Tehran and rebuilt the showroom from the ground up in three floors to present the growing line of products that Design In Wood now Offers.
People's interest and appreciation of our products had given me an excuse to pursue what I had always wanted. I set out to Europe to meet with the most successful furniture manufacturers. From them I learned the more modern way of producing furniture, managing a production line and customer relations. At the same time, I studied in the related fields and ordered some of the most advanced woodworking machinery to date from reputable manufacturers and imported them to the factory in Tehran. I returned with a new body of knowledge and a new vision. I started to implement the newer, more efficient systems of management and production into our work. Our production capacity increased and DIW rapidly became a well-known and trusted brand in home and office furniture. To this day and hopefully for days ahead, DIW's staff and I will strive to improve every aspect of our work and to enhance our products in every way possible.
